The Mona Lisa of Hip Hop: Raekwon’s Purple Casette

Raekwon – The purple Tape

I can not think of a body of music that changed my life to the degree that this project did. Certain hip hop albums come close like “Wu Tang Forever” and Common’s “Like Water From Chocolate” but this CD right here (I didn’t have the cassette, I’m a lil younger than most people think) changed my entire way of thinking in the blink of an eye. In my life story this album is very important. So important I probably wouldn’t be here doing this, talking, typing to you right now. If I actually owned the actual “purple cassette” I’d probably lose my mind. One day I’m gonna track one down and buy it just to own as a collectors item. The Purple Tape has grown to be the standard for a hip hop classic. But the lessons learned from this extend far beyond hip hop for me. Everything about this project was ill… the marketing, the music, the features, the message.

Side Note: I’m not trying to be a blogger… so eat a penis.
